Fujiyama Coffee Roasters Yanai Shirakabe Branch

“Fujiyama Coffee Roasters Yanai Shirakabe Branch” is located in the Shirakabe historical district, selected as a Nationally-Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings in 1984. Branch-exclusive drinks and seasonally-limited “kakigori” (shaved ice) are available here. With around 10 seats, customers can take a relaxing break from walking around the Shirakabe historical district. The branch also stocks a variety of Yanai souvenirs, including Yanai-branded products and artworks by Yanai handmade artists. Please feel free to visit as a break in your stroll around Shirakabe, or for some souvenirs of Yanai.

Karari

This store sells a range of accessories made using Yanai-jima textiles, such as coin purses, business card holders, and book covers. Karari also holds an accessory-making class called “Hitohari Yokocho” (Stitch Alley).

Higashiya

We have been a Japanese confectionery maker since the Edo period, for more than 170 years, of the traditional popular jelly-like sweets called "Okina-ame". This sweet is only available in Yanai and its nostalgic flavour is produced by carefully-selected ingredients after a five-day process carried out by skilled professionals of Japanese sweets. Seasonal-shaped and flavoured sweets are also recommended.

Kisaka Syobundo Stationery, Yanai Chuo Branch

This store’s slogan is “The local stationer that opens up and creates”. Visitors will be introduced to “high quality stationery, unaffected by fashion trends” and “Syobundo’s original ‘kingyo chochin’ stationery”, beloved by the store manager and staff. In addition, the store is developing a role as “the stationer that creates”, offering office design and stationery workshop services (production of “inkan” seals, business cards, etc.) that are helpful to local people, with the motto of “speediness”.

Kisaka Syobundo Stationery, Shirakabe Branch

This store’s slogan is “The local pioneering stationer with a nostalgic atmosphere”. The company was founded in 1894 (Meiji 27), and thrived as a wholesaler during the Meiji and Showa periods, leaving traces of that role even today. The interior of the store is designed to evoke an old-fashioned school. Items such as Yanai’s famous folkcraft “kingyo chochin” (goldfish-shaped lanterns), as well as original stationery and goods that incorporate “kingyo chochin” motifs, are gladly received as gifts for daily use. The store’s range of nostalgic stationery and toys is also a must-see.

Obatake Seto Strait & Obatake Tourist Center

Underneath the Oshima Bridge, which extends 1,020 meters from Obatake to Oshima, you can find one of Japan's 3 major tidal whirlpools. The bridge offers, especially to railway enthusiasts, a great photo opportunity of the JR Sanyo line trains running along the coastline on the Obatake side. At Obatake Tourist Center, you can buy special local produces including agriproducts and seafood. Various lunch boxes such as Igai Meshi (hard-shelled mussels and rice) and other local products such as fruit jam and Kikka-su (tangerine vinegar) are quite popular. Shiawase Gift Shop Matsumoto

We are a gift shop providing various local products not only from Yanai but also from the entire Yamaguchi Prefecture under the certification of local brand "Kinsai Yanai". We handle a number of locally-brewed sakes (rice wines). Among them, the famous "Dassai", "Gokyo", and "Gangi" are extremely popular. One of the most popular food products is a local curry called "Jinenjo Curry", which uses unique ingredients such as Jinenjo (Japanese wild yam) and Kanro Joyu (vintage soy sauce). Shigeeda Shoyu Brewery

We are one of the major breweries of Kanro Shoyu(vintage soy sauce), which is a specialty of Yanai, brewed for more than two years. Its mellow and rich taste goes perfectly with Sashimi(sliced raw fish) and it is also a perfect seasoning for all kinds of Japanese dishes. Other popular products are Moromi(fermented mash), Miso(soy bean paste) and whipped ice cream.
