Where is the Tourist Information Centre ?
The Tourist Information Centre is located on the site of the sightseeing bus parking lot on the west side of the Shirakabe historical district (Shirakabe Fureai Square). Materials including maps of the area surrounding the Shirakabe historical district and sightseeing pamphlets are available at the Tourist Information Centre, so please drop by for a visit.
What are the opening hours of the Tourist Information Centre?
9:00–17:00 on weekdays, and 9:00–16:00 on weekends. Closed during the end-of-year and New Year’s period.
Can I store my luggage somewhere?
We are sorry to say that there is no luggage holding service available from the Tourist Association or in the historical district. Please use the coin lockers that are located on the left side when exiting the JR Yanai Station building.
Are any goods sold at the Tourist Information Centre?
We are sorry to say that the Tourist Information Centre does not sell any goods. There is a vending machine outside the Centre.
Can tourists use the parking lot in front of the Tourist Information Centre?
We are sorry to say that the parking lot in front of the Tourist Information Centre is exclusively for sightseeing buses. Tourists using regular vehicles are requested to use a nearby sightseeing parking lot. Please see here for parking lot information
Are there places to eat in the historical district?
There is『Yanairo』, popular for its soft-serve ice cream made with “Kanro Soy Sauce”, and 『Sabo-Namba-An 』 a café in a renovated warehouse of a traditional residence. Alongside the Yanai River, there is also the udon noodle restaurant 『Odayakaudon-no-Shirakabeya』, as well as『 Café Restaurant Regan』, Visitors are advised to phone restaurants in advance to confirm their opening and closing days. Of the above, only『Café Restaurant Regan』serves evening meals on certain days.
Are any facilities or stores in the historical district accessible by wheelchair? Where are the toilets for people with disabilities?
There is a wheelchair slope for access to the Yanai Machinami Museum. Universal-access toilets in the historical district are located in the Tourist Information Centre, theShirakabe Gakuyukan,Yanai Nishigura,and theMachinami Museum.
Is it possible to travel to Yamaguchi Flower Land from JR Yanai Station by bus?
There is no direct bus toYamaguchi Flower Land. However, there is a discount taxi plan from JR Yanai Station or from in front of the Tourist Association (Fureai Square). For details, please see the 詳しくは、Yamaguchi Flower Landpage.
What are some recommended souvenirs of Yanai?
Yanai’s folkcraft, the kingyo chochin。(goldfish lantern) is a recommended souvenir. Original stationery store goodsbased on the motif of “kingyo chochin” are also recommended. Another popular souvenir is the local speciality product Kanro Soy Sauce(a slightly sweet sauce).
What is there to do at the Grimm House of Music Boxes? Are any goods sold there?
There are no goods sold at the Grimm House of Music Boxes. Every 30 minutes, the beautiful sound of music box chimes can be heard by passers-by. There is also a monument where a music box plays if you insert a 100-yen coin. Please seeherefor further details.
