Obatake Seto Strait & Obatake Tourist Center

Underneath the Oshima Bridge, which extends 1,020 meters from Obatake to Oshima, you can find one of Japan’s 3 major tidal whirlpools. The bridge offers, especially to railway enthusiasts, a great photo opportunity of the JR Sanyo line trains running along the coastline on the Obatake side.
At Obatake Tourist Center, you can buy special local produces including agriproducts and seafood. Various lunch boxes such as Igai Meshi (hard-shelled mussels and rice) and other local products such as fruit jam and Kikka-su (tangerine vinegar) are quite popular.

We are a shopping centre selling a variety of local specialities including agricultural and marine produces. Igai Meshi(rice cooked with shell meat of Igai), Tai Zushi(sushi using sea bream), hand-made lunch boxes, and processed food in Obatake area and Kikka-su (citrus vinegar) are very popular.
From the long Oshima Bridge connecting Obatake and Oshima with a total length of 1,020 metres, you can see the magnificent view of Obatake-Seto Strait, one of the three major tidal currents in Japan.
