Hizumi Camp Site (at Otarashi-hime Hachimangu Shrine)

Hizumi Camp Site is located next to the parking lot of Otarashi-hime Hachimangu Shrine in Hizumi Ozato. People can enjoy camping in a relaxing atmosphere at this quiet camp site surrounded by mountains and forests. Twinkling stars can be clearly seen between the trees. You will be amazed by the beauty of starlight in such a complete dark night with no artificial lighting system around you. Every August, this Shrine is a main venue of Hizumi Hassaku O-odori, the biggest Bon festival dance of the city.

Hizumi Hassaku O-odori

Held every year on the Saturday that precedes September 1, this is the last Bon-Odori (Obon dance) event held in the Yanai region, and is sometimes known as "the final Yukata-wearing event of the year". With a history of almost 200 years, this dance has long been held on the 210th day after "Risshun" (the beginning of spring), which corresponds to September 1. Since this period is typhoon season, the dance is dedicated to prayers to the god of wind to ward off damage from typhoons.

Hourai Bridge & Atago Jizou (Hifuse Jizou)

Hourai Bashi, the oldest bridge in Yanai, was built in 1663 to connect a reclaimed piece of land called "Kogaisaku" and "Yanaitsu" side and provided many locals with the only means to travel between the two sides. Koukan Shiba, a great artist of the Edo period, wrote about going over this bridge in his book "Saiyu Nikki (Travel Diary of the West)". "Gangi (stone stairs)" where boats would be docked and "Okimi Ishi-doro (stone lantern)" to guide incoming boats to dock remain up until today. Hydrangea Festival

Held at the flagship store of Kashinoki confectionary and Yamaguchi Flower Land. This is a joint exhibition of Kashinoki's hydrangea garden, which boasts 20,000 hydrangeas of 150 varieties, and the flowers of Yamaguchi Flower Land, with its stylish gardens of flowers and greenery surrounded by history and nature. During the festival period, a free shuttle bus between Yamaguchi Flower Land and the Kashinoki store will be in operation.

Ichigo-Ichie

As “a sweets café that expresses the heart of Japan”, Ichigo-Ichie offers soft-serve ice cream sent directly from Yamanaka Dairy Farm in Akaigawa Village, Hokkaido, in vanilla and limited-edition seasonal flavors, as well as Japanese sweets made with domestically-produced ingredients. Ikachi Tenjin Festival

This is a festival dedicated to the deified scholar Sugawara no Michizane, held on the first Sunday of April every year in the Ikachi district. After Shinto rites are performed, a portable shrine is pulled from the main shrine to the Otabisho (temporary dwelling). The procession is led by a saddled horse ridden by a child, and the members of the shrine community bring offerings such as flags, joinery, and arrow quivers. Inariyama Shrine

Inariyama shrine in Yanai City which has an impressive array of red gates (Torii) is famous for its magnificent Cherry trees and blossoms. When the 500 plus Cherry trees planted around the shrine blossom, the area looks like a cherry- coloured cloud and people can enjoy its splendor even from a distance. Those Cherry trees are past their peak but project sophisticated beauty which cannot be seen in young trees. Seto Inland Sea seen through the branches of the blossoming trees makes for a spectacular view.
